THE HAPPINESS BOX was written at Christmas in 1942 by a solicitor from Sydney, David Griffin, and it was illustrated by an English artist and writer, Leslie Greener. At that moment both men were allied POWs in Selarang Barracks, Singapore. They knocked up their little book in 48 hours as a gift for children in nearby Changi Jail. At the end of the war, Griffin brought the book back home with him. It was first published in 1947. Bryony has adapted and scored THE HAPPINESS BOX for narrator and orchestra. This recording of her work features Brett Kelly conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Stephen Curry as narrator
